On August 24, the missionaries from the Dominican Republic visited the area of Los Alcarrizos, Villa Los Peloteros: a very poor area with little access to health care.
They were accompanied by several volunteers, among them doctors of different specialties: pediatrics, radiology, cardiology, internal medicine and dentistry.
They provided dedicated care to 160 people, who also received the appropriate medicines.
In addition, food bags were distributed to several needy families in the neighborhood.
The children received catechetical talks and an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus during home visits, which were received with great joy.
It goes without saying that the population was very grateful for the benefits received, and they hope for another visit next year.
One of the missionaries said: “I visited the home of Cristian, a young handicapped man of 30 years old. He walks crawling; his hands and feet are completely deformed. However, he is striking because of his smile, in spite of so much suffering.”
He is with his mother, an older lady who lives on what her neighbors give to her. She recently fell, and so she visited the place where the Medical Operative was going on, looking for some relief. We gave her medicine and she told us that her son, seeing her in pain, helped her rub a cream with his crippled hands. We remembered this sentence of Fr. Molina: “Love is compassionate.”
Dr. Altagracia, a dentist, was one of the volunteers. She said: “I really liked this experience. At ABC PRODEIN, they care of the most needy people and seek to remedy their needs. I want to continue helping in these operations and also invite others. My husband is also a family doctor and can help.”
At the end of the day, the doctors and volunteers ... were tired, but filled with the joy of having been able to bring a ray of hope to so many people in need: “to go far, far away, farther away.”
Fr. Molina rightly said, “Joy is the brightness of love.”
